Common questions
How does the Day Score work?
Munch Munch estimates what is on your plate from a photo and turns your whole day into one number from 0 to 100. Every day starts at 50; each meal moves it a little. Meals with a protein food and vegetables move it up, very large or calorie-dense meals move it down, and one heavy meal can never wreck the whole day. The full explanation — plus the public-health sources behind each rule — is in the app under Settings → How scoring works & sources, and is summarised below.
The calorie numbers look off
A photo cannot show weight, oil, or what is hidden under the top layer, so we always show a range rather than an exact number. Open the meal and tap Smaller portion, Larger portion, or That's not it — your day is recalculated straight away.
My photo wasn't recognised as food
If the photo is dark, very close up, or mostly packaging, recognition can fail. Retake it from above with the whole plate in frame. Photos that aren't recognised don't change your score and don't use up your monthly quota.
How many analyses do I get?
The free plan includes a set number of photo analyses each month; the counter is shown at the top of the Today screen. Premium raises the limit — see the paywall in the app for the current numbers and prices.
How do I restore a purchase?
Open the app, go to the upgrade screen (Settings → Upgrade to Premium) and tap Restore purchases. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account that bought the subscription.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, not by us. On iPhone or iPad open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Munch Munch → Cancel Subscription. Cancelling stops future renewals; your Premium features stay active until the end of the paid period. For refunds, use Apple's Report a Problem page.
How do I delete my account and data?
In the app: Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your photos, history, and Day Score data. You can also request it from our account deletion page.
I can't sign in with Apple or Google
Check your internet connection, then close and reopen the app. If it still fails, email us with the account you're trying to use and the error text — we can look up what happened on our side.
Reminders aren't arriving
Make sure notifications are allowed for Munch Munch in your device settings, and that a reminder mode other than "No reminders" is selected in Settings → Reminders.
What happens to my photos?
Photos are used to analyse your meals and build your history. We don't sell them and we don't use them for advertising. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Health information & sources
Munch Munch is a general wellness app. It is not a medical device, and it does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition. Calorie figures are rough visual estimates, not measurements. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, are following a prescribed diet, or have a history of disordered eating, please speak to a doctor or a registered dietitian and follow their advice over ours.
The nutrition rules behind the Day Score come from published public-health guidance. The same list is available inside the app under Settings → How scoring works & sources:
- World Health Organization — Healthy diet (fact sheet) — vegetables and fruit at meals, limits on free sugars, fats, and salt.
- U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services — Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020–2025 — meal patterns and calorie-dense foods.
- NHS (UK) — The Eatwell Guide — the plate proportions behind a "balanced" meal.
- Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health — The Healthy Eating Plate.
- World Health Organization — Guideline: sugars intake for adults and children (2015) — why sugary drinks are weighted separately.
- World Health Organization — Alcohol (fact sheet).
- European Food Safety Authority — Dietary Reference Values for energy and protein — including the "too little food" check.
- U.S. Department of Agriculture — FoodData Central — the reference data behind our calorie ranges.
